Netherlands and Senegal created chances but neither of the teams were able to find the net as it all remained goalless at the end of the first-half. Coady Gakpo got the big breakthrough for Netherlands as he ensured to hit a header straight on target, inside the net and give his team a 1-0 lead. In the 99th minute, Davy Klaasen scored yet another goal to double the lead for Netherlands, securing a win in their WC opener.

Louis van Gaal-led Netherlands, the current Africa Cup of nations winner, have qualified for FIFA World Cup after 2014. The Dutch are in terrific form as they now remain unbeaten for 16 games, since losing 2-0 to Chez Republic in Euro 2022.

Notably, Senegal and Netherlands, today, played their first ever international match in FIFA World Cup. Netherlands now haven't lost a single time in their last nine opening matches at the FIFA World Cup (W7 D2), Senegal, on the other hand, who won in both of their opening games in the World Cup saw their streak getting broken at the hands of Netherlands.
