US-based beer company Budweiser, Friday, reacted to the latest 'beer ban' by Qatar at eight World Cup venues hosting 2022 FIFA World Cup. In a dramatic decision, hosts Qatar announced complete ban on consumption and sale on alcohol at all venues, just 48 hours ahead of the mega football tournament commences. Minutes after the announcement, Budweiser's official Twitter account posted a now-deleted tweet which read: “Well this is awkward…”

Notably, the famous beer company is one of the major sponsors of FIFA World Cup. Budweiser has been an exclusive World Cup brand since 1986. The ban could result in FIFA being in breach of a multi-million dollar contract.
Fifa said in a statement: “Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar’s Fifa World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters.
FIFA, however, said there will be no impact on the sale of non-alcoholic Bud Zero, which will remain available at all stadiums where the World Cup matches will be played.
“There is no impact to the sale of Bud Zero which will remain available at all Qatar’s World Cup stadiums. Host country authorities and Fifa will continue to ensure that the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful and pleasant experience for all fans.”
