FIFA World Cup 2022: Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo attained a huge milestone on social media. The legendary footballer scripted history by becoming the first sportsperson to reach 500 million followers on Instagram. Ronaldo, one the best athletes of all time in sporting history, reached this milestone on Monday, November 21. For the unversed, Ronaldo is also one of the highest-paid sportspersons on Instagram, raking a whopping USD 1,604,000 or Rs 11.9 crore approximately for each sponsored post. As per the Instagram rich list for 2021, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list followed by Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson (USD 1,523,000) and pop-sensation Ariana Grande (USD 1,510,000).
Few days back, Ronaldo was in the news for his controversial interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, in which he lambasted Manchester United and boss Erik ten Haig for "betraying" him.
"I don't have respect for him (Ten Hag) because he doesn't show respect for me. If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you," Ronaldo said in an interview with Piers Morgan as quoted by GOAL.com.
"I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United. But you have some things inside that don't help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal . . . a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not unfortunately," he added.
In reply to Ronaldo's interview, Manchester United said they have started taking 'appropriate steps'.
"Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo's recent media interview. We will not be making further comments until this process reaches its conclusion," the club said.
