Arsenal vs Liverpool: Arsenal have ended a 3-1 defeat to Premier League leaders Liverpool in their face-off at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday (February 4). The defeat has ended the Jurgen Klopp-led side's 15-match unbeaten-run in the league as they succumbed to only their second defeat of the season. While Bukayo Saka's 14th minute strike put the home team in front, it was an own goal from Gabriel Magalhaes in the stoppage time of the first half that allowed the Reds to equalise.
In the second half though, the Gunners outplayed the Premier League leaders to clinch all the three points on offer in the fixture. First it was a 67th minute strike from Gabriel Martinelli that put the Mikel Arteta's men ahead before an extra time goal Leandro Trossard sealed the game in their favour. As a result of the win, Arsenal now find themselves just 2 points behind Liverpool with 49 points from 23 matches. The Reds, by contrast have 51 points from 23 games.
Arsenal vs Liverpool: Reds Remain Top Of Table But Premier League Title Race Gets Intense
Even though Reds remain on top of the table, the result has intensified the Premier League title race with three teams closing in on it. While Liverpool had a chance to further take a massive step towards the title and go eight points clear of the Gunners, they now find the Arsenal catching up who are closely followed by Manchester City with 46 points. More importantly, City have played two matches less and have accumulated those points in 21 matches.
Other than their goals, Arsenal's defence was spot on especially in the latter half of the match. Between their second and the third goals, Gunners' defence was practically impregnable and they did not show any nerves either as they closed in on an famous win in front of a packed home stadium.
