The race to the Saudi Pro League has taken an interesting turn after the match between the two favourites Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad. While it was Cristiano Ronaldo-led Al-Nassr who were leading the title race before their face off on Thursday, Al-Ittihad managed to clinch all the three points from this match to overtake the five time Ballon d'Or's team.

However, before the match the Al-Ittihad fans were nervous with a handful of them even demanding the club to sign Ronaldo's long-time rival Lionel Messi. A picture of a fan holding a placard of Messi has gone viral on social media with several fans also chanting his name during the match.

Talking about the actual football action, the Tigers' fans won't be too displeased with what happened at the King Abdullah Sports City. The home team registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Al-Nassr and now found themselves at the top of the Saudi League table with 47 points from 20 matches with as many as 14 wins, 5 draws and 1 defeat.

Al-Nassr are not too far behind and are sitting at the second place with 46 points from 20 matches with 14 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses.

Romarinho's 80th minute strike turned out to be the difference in the end between the two teams.

Star player Ronaldo was visibly upset with the result of the match. The Portugal international was seen shaking his head and even kicked water bottles in disgust after ending up on the losing side. The 38-year-old later took to social media to suggest how his side needed to remain focused and stay positive.

"Disappointed with the result, but we stay focused on our season and the games ahead.💪🏼 Thank you Al Nassr fans for your support, we know we can count on you!🙌🏼💛💙," the ex-Manchester United star tweeted along with a picture of himself in the team huddle.

Ronaldo has now failed to find the back of the net in his last two league games.
