England skipper Eoin Morgan re-wrote the record books in international cricket en-route his blistering 78-ball ton against Ireland in the third and final ODI at Southampton on Friday.


Morgan smoked 4 sixes out of the Ageal Oval Park in his 106-run knock to go past former Indian skipper MS Dhoni's record of most sixes by a skipper in international cricket.Morgan notched up a 100 run partnership for the fourth wicket with Tom Banton, slammed 106 runs off 84 balls laced with 4 sixes and 15 fours.

The hard hitting left handed Morgan came into bat at his customary Number 4 position and bailed his team out of a crisis by taking the attack to the Irish bowling by scoring a whirlwind ton at The Rose Bowl, Southampton to help his team set a daunting 328-run total on Tuesday (August 04). Morgan's knock wasn't enough as Ireland pulled off an amazing chase with Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stiring scoring tons to help the visitors secure an impressive victory.

Morgan overtook Dhoni's record tally of 211 sixes and stands atop the list of international skippers with most sixes. Australia's Ricky Ponting (171 in 324 matches) is at the third spot on the list of skippers with maximum number of international sixes while New Zealand's Brendon McCullum (170 in 121) and South Africa's AB de Villiers (135 in 124) are on the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

West Indies pugnacious opener Chris Gayle leads the six scoring charts in one day international cricket with 534 sixes. Indian opener Rohit Sharma and legendary wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni are the two Indians who are part of the top five whereas English batsman Morgan occupies the eighth place, one behind South Africa batting wizard AB de Villiers (328).
