New Delhi: ICC T20 Men's T20 World Cup Super 12 group stage matches started on Saturday. Today, in the second match of Group-1, England kicked-off their T20 World Cup campaign by defeating two-time champions West Indies by six wickets in a low-scoring thriller in the match played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
England skipper Eoin Morgan's decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved to be correct as England bundled out West Indies for just 55 runs. Adil Rashid was the pick of English bowlers as he bagged 4 wickets for the team for just 2 runs in 2.2 overs. Chasing such a paltry target, England were off to a bad start, but on the back of unbeaten 24 runs by opener Jos Buttler, England chased down the target after losing four wickets in the ninth over.
Chris Gayle scored the maximum 13 runs for West Indies. Apart from him, no West Indies batsman could score in double figure.
England's bowlers rattled West Indies team by bowling brilliantly in today's match. Apart from star performer Rashid, Tymal Mills and Moeen Ali took two wickets each. Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan got one wicket each. The England bowlers dominated throughout the match and the batsmen were seen struggling.
Chasing 56 for the win, England did not start well as Jason Roy was dismissed after scoring 11 runs. After this, Jonny Bairstow came to bat, but he too could only score 9 runs. Then Moeen Ali came to bat and was run out for just 3 runs. Liam Livingstone could also make just 1 run. Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 24 runs for England.
