New Delhi: Eklayva Jagal, a class 10th student from Amity International School Noida, bagged gold in the finals of Junior B (15-17 years) category of the 17th National Short Track Speed Ice Skating Championships which concluded on May 31 at iSkate, Gurugram, Haryana.
After securing the pole position in the finals of the National Short Track Speed Ice Skating Championships, Eklavya told ABP Live that his aim is to represent India at prestigious events.
"I have a dream to represent India in Youth Olympics 2024 and winter Olympics 2026 and have been training very hard both on ice as well as off the ice to fulfil this dream," he told ABP Live.
Eklavya is the national short track ice skating gold medal winner for the last 5 years. He has been skating for the last 7 years and has won several medals at various state and national level ice/inline skating competitions.
In January 2020, Eklvaya won a bronze medal in the SEA (South East Asia) Open Trophy held in Singapore.
In October 2018, Eklavya secured the third position in the 500 metres final under midgets age group in the 2018 Australian Open Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
The championship was conducted after a gap of 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The events were divided into the age categories: Novice (below 10 years), Junior D (10-13 years), Junior C (13-15 years), Junior B (15-17 years), Junior A (17-19 years) and Senior (above 19 years).
