D Gukesh Wins FIDE Chess Candidates 2024: Chennai's teenaged chess wizard D Gukesh scripted history on Sunday as he became the youngest-ever player to win the Candidates tournament in Toronto, Canada. As soon as he accomplished this feat, he also became the youngest world championship challenger at 17 while becoming only the second Indian to the Candidates title after the legendary Viswanathan Anand.

The manner in which Gukesh D went on to claim the title was sensational especially given that the youngester wasn't even the favourite to win the tournament. The likes of Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura historically enjoyed a better record over the Indian but eventually as it turned out it was the Chennai boy who managed to top the standings.
