Satwik Sai Raj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty win Gold at CWG 2022: India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty outclassed England 21-15, 21-13 in straight games to win India's first-ever Commonwealth Games (CWG) Gold in Badminton doubles final. Earlier, PV Sindhu (women's singles) and 20-year-old Lakshya Sen (men's singles) brought glory to the nation by winning gold medals in their respective categories.


In the first game of the mixed doubles final, the Indian pair of Satwik-Chirag put on a scintillating performance to beat the opposing England pair. The Indian pair won the first set 21-15 and took a crucial 1-0 lead in the match.


In the second set, the Indian pair and the England pair started with a 1-1 tie.  After this, the Indian pair gained quick momentum, taking a 5-3 lead and in no time 21-13 to win the second game and the final match. With this, India won their third consecutive gold in badminton on the last day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.






Earlier, India's PV Sindhu won her first-ever gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022 after defeating Canada's Michelle Lee in the Badminton Women's Singles final of CWG 2022. Sindhu had won a silver in Gold Coast after losing against star veteran Saina Nehwal in the final. Sindhu was struggling with a niggle in her left leg but that didn't stop her from winning the prestigious gold at CWG.


After Sindhu's win, Lakshya Sen scripted history by winning his maiden gold in the badminton event of men's singles of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham after defeating Malaysia's mighty Tze Yong NG 19-21, 21-9, 21-16.
