PV Sindhu Wins Gold At Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham: Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, one of India's greatest athletes, defeated 2014 Glasgow Games gold medalist Michelle Li of Canada 21-15 21-13 in the final of women's singles in badminton to win her maiden Commonwealth Games Gold medal on Monday, after clinching bronze (2014) and silver (2018) in the previous two Games. This is Indian contingent's 19th Gold medal in CWG 2022. Sindhu had won a silver in Gold Coast after losing against star Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal in the final. Sindhu was struggling with a niggle in her left leg but that didn't stop her from winning the prestigious gold at CWG.
Sindhu was off to a great start as she won the first set 21-15. Canada's Michelle Lee did try to get close to Sindhu at one point, but the Indian shuttle proved to be a dominating figure and took a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set saw a tough battle between Sindhu and Mitchell. At one point, Sindhu had a 10-4 lead but Mitchell Lee bounced back to close their gap to 12-9. An injured Sindhu then picked up the pace and took a 19-13 lead and later won the second set 21-13 to win the match and gold medal 2-0 in Commonwealth Games 2022.
