Gold Coast [Australia], April 12 (ANI): Indian wrestler Babita Phogat missed out on reclaiming her Glasgow Games gold as she settled with a silver medal in the finals of women's 53kg category at the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games here on Thursday.

Despite making a good start in the initial rounds of the summit showdown, Phogat failed to capitalise on it and slumped to a 2-5 defeat at the hands of Canada's Diana Weicker.

It was Phogat's third Commonwealth Games medal after winning silver and gold in Delhi (51kg) and Glasgow (55kg), respectively.

Phogat's victory was India's first wrestling medal at the ongoing edition of the Games.

Rahul Aware, on the other hand, won India's maiden gold medal in wrestling after defeating Canada's Steven Takahashi 15-7 in the finals of the Freestyle 57kg category.

The 26-year-old grappler from Maharashtra scored six technical points in the first period and nine in the second in contrast to Takahashi's four and three, respectively.

With this, India's overall tally has now increased to 28, including 13 gold, six silver and eight bronze.(ANI)
