Delhi Capitals, led by young captain Rishabh Pant, defeated Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets in their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) on Saturday at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium. 


Delhi Capitals easily achieved the target of 189 runs on the back of explosive half-centuries from Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan. The first match of IPL 2021 proved to be disappointing for both Chennai Super Kings and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

MS Dhoni Becomes First Captain In IPL 2021 To Be Fined For Slow Over-Rate 


While batting against Delhi Capitals in the match, MS Dhoni got dismissed without scoring any runs and after the match, IPL Governing Council fined him Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals.


"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh," a statement from IPL's media release read.


As per the BCCI rule, every team must complete their 20 overs in 90 minutes. In 90 minutes, the teams will get two time outs of two and a half minutes. This means teams will have to throw a total of 20 overs in 85 minutes. Accordingly, every team will have to throw 14.11 overs in an hour.


On the other hand, after the defeat, Dhoni said that his bowlers will have to learn from their mistakes after a poor performance against Delhi Capitals. 


MS Dhoni said, "We could have bowled better. The bowlers could not perform as expected and bowled very loose deliveries. They have taken a lesson and they will do better in the future. " Dhoni said that a lot depends on the dew and keeping that in mind, CSK wanted to score as many runs as possible.
