Yuvraj Singh, the Player of the Tournament of ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2011 which India had won, revealed how he motivated Shubman Gill who is recovering from dengue ahead of the IND vs PAK World Cup 2023 clash. Yuvraj shared his personal experience of how he battled from cancer during the 2011 World Cup.

"Shubham Gill ko maine tagda kar diya hai [I have strengthened Shubham Gill]. I told him that I had played in the World Cup while battling cancer, so I got ready quickly to join the team. Hopefully, he will be ready for the India vs Pakistan game. When you have a fever and dengue it is really tough to play a cricket match and I have experienced that. So I hope that if he is fit then he will definitely play," Yuvraj told ANI.

Gill was spotted participating in an hour long net session in Ahmedabad two days before the match. He arrived at the Ahmedabad airport in the morning and practiced with special arrangement being made for him by the BCCI. Gill was forced to miss both of India's World Cup fixtures so far. In his absence, it is Ishan Kishan who has been batting at the top of the order along with Rohit Sharma with Shreyas Iyer batting in the middle order. If Gill is included in the XI, either of Kishan or Iyer will have to sit out.

The Indian batter has scored over 1200 runs to in the calendar year 2023 and was even the team's leading run-getter in Asia Cup 2023 where the team emerged as the champions.
