WPL 2023: On Thursday, Australia’s World Cup-winning skipper Meg Lanning has been named as the captain of Delhi Capitals ahead of the Women’s Premier League.
Under the leadership of Lanning, Australia won their third straight ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title. Her side outplayed South Africa by 19 runs at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday. Australia ended up winning all of their six matches in the tournament.
India’s star batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been appointed the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming Women’s Premier League. Earlier, in the auction, the company paid Rs 810 crore, or approximately USD 99.35 million, to acquire the rights.
The 22-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues was snatched by the Delhi Capitals for the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL). The batter hailing from Mumbai was bought by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.20 crores in the WPL action being held in Dubai on Monday. The teen sensation to a mainstay of the Indian women's cricket team is currently part of the squad taking part in the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa. This development comes a day after when Jemimah scored a crucial knock against Pakistan in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup.
Previously, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Thursday unveiled the mascot of the Women's Premier League, 'Shakti'. ANI took to its Twitter handle and posted a video. The inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League is all set to commence from March 4 with the first match set to be played between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
