Star India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has said that he feels he wasn't at his best in the Test matches against Bangladesh but would hit the bed feeling a lot happier after his 6-wicket haul against Australia on Friday. His remark came after the end of the play on Day 2 of the fourth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in which the 36-year-old scalped 5 of the 6 Australian wickets to fall.
"You can go to bed feeling a lot better instead of having just three wickets in your kitty," Ashwin said after he picked up his 32nd fifer in the game's longest format.
"It does feel good as you end up with good bag of wickets, even if you dont bowl sometimes, you feel good about it. I will go to bed tonight a bit early and a bit happier," he added.
"We expected the wicket to play well but not as slow as it did. So let's hope that it gets tougher to bat on as the game goes on," he stated.
Known for his sharp reading and insights of the game, Ashwin said that the batting might get difficult in the second innings of both the teams. He said that he would be cheering for the Indian batters and wants some of the team's top-order stars to go out there and get a big score.
He said that ideally India should have some batting left when play resumes on Day 3 and called it a game of second innings. He acknowledged that the bowlers have had to toil hard and want the Indian batters to bat for as long as possible.
Notably, after conceding 480 runs in the first innings, India ended Day 2 at 36/0 and trail by 444 runs.
