A week after notching up the top spot in the ICC’s ODI all-rounder rankings, Shakib Al Hasan scripted history on Sunday in Bangladesh’s opening match in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Playing against South Africa, the former skipper slammed 75 runs and picked up a wicket as well.

Shakib rattled the stumps of Aiden Markram and with this scalp, he became the fastest cricketer to touch the ODI double of 5000+ runs and 250+ wickets.

Here’s the video:

Shakib joined an elite list of all-rounders - Pakistan's Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi, Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis. However, Shakib leads the table as he is the fastest to the feat, reaching the ODI-double milestone in just 199 matches, surpassing the previous record of 258 matches by Razzaq.  Shakib now has a total of 250 wickets and 5080 runs.

On Sunday, the Proteas won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. The Tigers posted their highest one-day international score as ferocious hitting from Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan took them to 330 for six against South Africa.

Mushfiqur made 78 from 80 balls and Shakib's 75 came from 84 balls as the pair combined in a 142-run partnership.

South Africa's bowling attack was hardly threatening as Shakib reached his fifty with ease. Du Plessis was visibly frustrated, gesticulating angrily as Shakib and Mushfiqur took their partnership past a hundred runs.
