While the entire nation went through a massive heartbreak following MS Dhoni’s unfortunate run-out against New Zealand at the World Cup 2019 semi-final, a cycle shop owner in Kolkata couldn’t handle the pain and left the world.

It might sound some movie story but, unfortunately, it’s a real story.

Srikanta Maity of Hoogly district was watching the India vs New Zealand semi-final clash on Wednesday like every other Indian cricket fan. The moment Dhoni was declared run out, he suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed at the spot.

People around him took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead

“We rushed to his help on hearing a loud thud. We saw him lying unconscious on the floor. We took him to Khanakul hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” Sachin Gosh, a sweet shop owner in the same area said.

On Wednesday, the New Zealand bowling attack dashed India’s hopes as they suffered a top-order collapse during their chase of 240 at the Old Trafford in Manchester, thus losing the match by 18 runs.

It was all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who fought hard along with Dhoni, playing superb knocks of 77 and 50 respectively. However, their effort was not sufficient as the men in blue faltered for the second time on the trot at the semi-final stage of the World Cup.
