Steyn has been officially ruled out of the clash against Bangladesh owing to his shoulder injury which still needs healing. The veteran seamer suffered a shoulder injury during his short stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2019.
Steyn had missed out on playing in South Africa's opener against hosts England on May 30th.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the 35-year-old was not a part of the South Africa net practice on Friday. As per reports, Dale is still recovering from the shoulder knock he sustained while representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi will lead the pace attack of the Faf Du Plessis-led against Bangladesh on Sunday at Kennington Oval in London.
In the absence of Steyn, South Africa shall once again rely on Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi to led the pace attack and are likely to bolster their seam attack by naming either Dwaine Pretorius or Chris Morris in the starting eleven against Mashrafe Mortaza's side along with Andile Phehlukwayo.
While Steyn didn't attend the latest nets practice, South Africa opener Hashim Amla was also another household named in the list of absentees on Saturday. Amla suffered a concussion in the 2019 World Cup opener against hosts England is speculations about not being a part of the starting eleven against Bangladesh.
South Africa shall be looking to get a win under their belt against Bangladesh after being handed a crushing defeat at the hands of hosts England in their tourney opener on May 30. The Proteas lost to England by a huge margin of 104-run, a loss largely triggered by a major batting collapse.
