Women's Big Bash League 2024: Adelaide Strikers open their account for points in this year's Women's Big Bash League, as the reigning champions inflict an 11-run defeat on Sydney Sixers in Match 5 of WBBL 2024.

It was a valiant effort from Ellyse Perry's side, who looked like comfortable winners, but the defending champions did exceptionally well to defend 21 off 18, as the conceded 9 runs and took 5 wickets in that phase.

"Yes, great win in the end. We kept our composure to win. The partnership between Wolvaardt at the top was crucial and then our bowlers bowled really well out there and got the result in the end. I enjoyed myself out there and had fun. Just played my natural game and swung around to get the runs. That was what we did and got the job done," said Amanda-Jade Wellington, who was awarded the Player of the Match.

"Tahlia did think we got enough and our bowlers did an amazing job as they stood up under pressure. I think we did well. Yes, we have to improve our catching as catches win matches as you know. So, that is an area that we have to work on. Thank You," she added.
