Bangladesh vs South Africa: Bangladesh are taking on South Africa in the second and the final Test match of the bilateral series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. Before the start of the match, the hosts were handed a major blow with Jakir Ali being ruled out of the match after suffering a concussion during a training session ahead of the match.
"Jaker Ali suffered a concussion while batting in practice yesterday [Sunday]," Bangladesh's physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.
"He has a history of concussions and is still showing symptoms. Given his previous concussion record, recovery may take some time. Based on the clinical findings, he has been ruled out of the second Test."

Jakir Ali being ruled out meant a maiden national call up for Mahidul Islam Ankon who made his Test debut when he was named in Bangladesh's Playing 11 for the second Test against South Africa in Chattogram. The wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul has played most of his first-class matches for Dhaka division and has smashed three centuries for the team. In addition, he has been part of the Bangladesh A team which took on Pakistan A in August 2023.

Mahidul has earned a place back in the side riding on good form. He scored a solid 118 against Sylhet Division earlier this month. Other than trusting Mahidul Islam Ankon with a place in the side, the selectors also called up pace bowler Khaleel Ahmed to replace Taskin Ahmed.
