Women's Asia Cup 2024: Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu created history against Malaysia Women, as she noe becomes the first-ever T20I centurion in the tournament's history. The feat was achieved during Sri Lanka Women's group stage match against Malaysia Women on Monday, July 22, as she reached her century within 63 balls.

Here's how she reached the milestone:

It was a historic day for not just Chamari Athapaththu, but for Sri Lanka women as well, as they managed to register their biggest T20I win in terms of runs against Malaysia Women. Sri Lanka Women managed to score 184 in their 20 overs thanks to unbeaten 119 from skipper Chamari Athapaththu, and in reply, Malaysia Women managed to bat out for 119 balls, only to get bundled out for merely 40 runs, as the hosts won the match by 144 runs.

Here's What The Two Captains Said During The Post-Match Presentation Ceremony

Winifred Duraisingam (Malaysia Women Captain):

"It was a very tough game for us and hopefully the girls something from it and hopefully they will come back stronger in the next game. I think we lack experience at the highest level and when we get to play more against bowlers like the Sri Lankans then we will get better."

Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain):

"Really happy today. My team mates and support staff have supported me today. My mom is there to see me here for the first time in 13 years. So, dedicated to her and thanks to her for coming. I am enjoying my cricket and knows how to handle the pressure and that's what I am doing. We always think about the World Cup and Asia Cup main matches and that's why we are making these many changes. That is all. Happy with the win, but long way to go in the tournament."
