Australian opener D’Arcy Short scripted history while batting against Queensland in the JLT Cup match at Hurstville Oval on Friday. The 28-year-old cricketer became the fourth Australian batsman to score a double hundred in 50-overs cricket.
While batting for Queensland, the left-hander smashed 257 runs in 148 balls, the highest by any other player in Australia. Short bough up his century in just 83 balls which turned out to be his 2nd in the List A cricket.
Once he reached the milestone, he brutally attacked the opponent bowlers all around the park and brought his double ton in just 128 balls.
During his innings, Short hit 15 boundaries and 23 massive sixes, which is a record in all one-day cricket. New Zealand opener Colin Munro is the only man to have hit 23 sixes in a 50-over game.
Unfortunately, Short was dismissed for 257 in the 46th over by Matthew Kuhnemann as he was stumped by the Queensland wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson.
Short’s 257 is the third-highest individual score in one-day cricket after Scotland’s Alistair Brown’s 268 (he scored for Surrey against Glamorgan in the country cricket match) and Rohit Sharma’s 264 in an ODI against Sri Lanka.
Also, Short has now topped the list of Australian batsmen, including Ben Dunk, Phillip Hughes and Travis Head, who have scored a double ton on Australia soil. He surpassed Dunk’s previous best of 229* as the highest score by an Australian.
