Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, they got themselves off to a great start as Marco Jansen dismissed West Indies opener Shai Hope for a golden duck. Bowling the second over, skipper Aiden Markram dismissed West Indies mainstay Nicholas Pooran on the very first ball of the second over. Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase stabilized things for West Indies but Tabraiz Shamsi broke the crucial partnership in the 12th over. From then on, they lost wickets at regular intervals and 135-8 in 20 overs is what they finished with.

South Africa Emerge Victorious In Nail-Biting, Rain-Marred Match
In reply, the Proteas began things rather shakily as they lost Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock early in the innings. The game got disrupted due to a rain delay and the match was subsequently shortened by three overs for South Africa and their revised target was 123 runs (DLS method).
Heinrich Klaasen gave the Proteas innings some spur with Tristan Stubbs holding the fort on the other side. However, a disciplined bowling performance by Roston Chase saw South Africa lose wickets in quick succession and they were reeling at 110-7 in 15.3 overs. But to South Africa's respite, Kagiso Rabada's boundary followed by Marco Jansen's six sealed the victory for the Proteas and earned them a spot in the semi-finals.
