India has had a great run in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The Men in Blue remain the only undefeated in the tournament so far and have deservingly sealed a place in the final of the continental tournament. Even though their first match of the Group A ended without any result with rain playing spoilsport, India thrashed Nepal by 10 wickets in their second match to book a place for themselves in the Super Four.
Rohit Sharma & Co. then registered a record win by 228 runs over Pakistan in their first Super Four contest at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. They were then challenged by Sri Lanka in their next Super Four clash but found a way to come out on top as they won by 41 runs to seal a place for themselves in the final and knock Bangladesh out of contention.
Even though India have a Super Four match against Bangladesh remaining, they are already assured of a place in the summit clash. But who they meet in the titular contest will depend on who wins the match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, which is a virtual semifinal.
What Happens If Rain Plays Spoilsport In SL vs PAK?
In case, rain plays spoilsport in SL vs PAK Super Four fixture, both the teams will be forced to share points and will end up 3 points from 3 matches. In such a scenario, it will be the Net Run Rate (NRR) which will come into picture to decide who forges ahead in the competition. That would mean bad news for Pakistan since their NRR has taken a beating after the heavy defeat to India and currently stands at -1.892, the lowest among the four teams.
Sri Lanka, by contast, have a better NRR of -0.200 and if rain abandons play in Colombo on September 14 (Thursday), then they would be the side against India in the final.
