India (IND) and South Africa (SA) are slated to lock horns against each other in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 29 (Saturday). Both of them have been undefeated in the tournament so far. India are coming off a handsome 68-run win against England in the semifinal whereas South Africa defeated Afghanistan by nine wickets in their semifinal. These two teams also met each other back in the T20 World Cup 2022 and the outcome did not favour Rohit Sharma & co.

India and South Africa did not cross paths earlier in this tournament as they were in different groups. However, their last encounter in the T20 World Cup dates back to 2022, when they met in Perth, Australia.

What Happened In IND vs SA T20 World Cup 2022 Match?

India and South Africa were in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup 2022 and faced off in Perth on October 30. Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. However, India openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma fell early in the powerplay to the South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi. Ngidi went on to take Virat Kohli’s wicket as well, as the India number three fell after scoring 12 off 11 balls.

Despite a valiant 68-run knock from Suryakumar Yadav of 40 balls, India managed to post a modest total of 133 runs. 

In response, South Africa faced a tough challenge early on losing Temba Bavuma, with Mohammad Shami's disciplined bowling restricting their run-scoring. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw early, reducing South Africa to 24/3 within the powerplay.

However, Aiden Markram and David Miller’s partnership proved pivotal. Both batters reached half-centuries, guiding South Africa to victory. The match came down to the final over, where Bhuvneshwar Kumar was tasked with defending five runs but Miller's crucial boundary secured a five-wicket win for South Africa.
