Vidarbha opener Faiz Fazal was left in shock after being given out by the umpire in one of the most unusual ways during the ongoing Irani Cup against the Rest of India (RoI). The entire episode created yet another controversy, raising questions on the quality of umpiring in Indian domestic circuit.

The incident happened in the 21st over on Day 2 when Fazal seemed to have edged a delivery from K Gowtham to stumper Ishan Kishan. Hearing the noise, the entire RoI unit appealed loud but on-field umpire Nandan was unmoved and didn’t give any decision.

The appeal died down while fielders rushed back to their positions, the umpire suddenly raised his fingers, giving Fazal out.

The RoI players once again jumped off in joy but the Vidarbha opener was left totally stunned by the decision of the umpire. He had to walk back on 27, leaving his team at 50/1.

Later, Akshay Kanewar slammed 102 runs off 133 deliveries which helped the Ranji champions piling up 425 runs in the first innings, and take a lead of 95 runs.
