Surrey’s 20-year-old medium pacer Ryan Patel bowled a dream spell against Somerset at the County Championship Division One on June 21.

The young bowler claimed 6 wickets in his spell of 3.4 overs and leaked just five runs. Moreover, a burst of five dismissals in just 11 deliveries turned the game upside down for the opponents.

In reply to Surrey’s mammoth to total of 459 runs, Somerset were off to decent start. During the 54th over, Patel was brought into the attack while the Tom Abell led side were decently placed at 169/4.

In the next 30 minutes, Patel ripped through Somerset’s middle and lower order, bundling them up at 180 in just 59.5 overs. The young medium pacer was himself left surprised while the Somerset were forced to follow on.

"It's all a bit surreal to be honest, I can hardly believe what's happened," said Patel after claiming the magical bowling figures of 3.4-5-6.

“"I got one with my first ball which gave me a lot of confidence and it was coming out really nicely, but I never expected to finish up with six wickets,” he added.

Patel is basically a No. 4 batsman who has a few medium-pacing techniques as well. Before bowling at the game, he had just two first-class wickets on his name.

Surrey is the same County side Virat Kohli was scheduled to make his debut with. However, his neck injury didn’t allow him to leave for England early.
