India vice-captain Rohit Sharma smashed a crisp 103 to help India thrash Sri Lanka by seven wickets in their final group game of the World Cup to finish with 15 points from 9 games. Virat Kohli & Co will top the points tally and take on New Zealand the first semifinal in Manchester on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media during a press conference, India's deputy captain was caught off guard by a reporter when he was asked to "say something" about MS Dhoni's 38th birthday. Rohit came up with a witty reply that left everyone in splits in the media room at Headingley.

"What do you tell someone on their birthday? Happy birthday only right?" Rohit told the reporter.

The India opener also said that the team would be cutting cake on their way and would share some photos with everyone.

"We have our travel day tomorrow and we don't know we are going to Manchester or Birmingham. Accordingly we will cut the cake during the bus drive. We will send you the photos," Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul struck fine centuries to help India chase down the 265-run target set by Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma broke records a plenty as he became the first ever batsman to score 5 tons in single edition of the World Cup. Meanwhile Rohit's opening partner KL Rahul struck his maiden World Cup ton.

Matthews kept on piling on the runs and eventually got to his maiden World Cup ton. Jasprit Bumrah came back into the attack to send Matthews back to the pavilion. Dhananjaya de Silva added some runs at a fair clip towards the end of the Sri Lankan innings.

India ended their group stage campaign with seven wins in nine matches. India's only loss came at the hands of hosts England.
