Mahendra Singh Dhoni can dislodge the stumps without looking at them and the cricket fanatics have witnessed it often. Only the running speed of a batsman can save him from Dhoni’s flawless throws. However, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) opener KL Rahul turned out to be extremely lucky that he survived a run-out scare even after the Chennai Super Kings skipper (CSK) was spot-on at his attempt.

The incident happened when KXIP were chasing a 161-run target on Saturday evening in Chennai. On the fourth delivery of the 13th over, Rahul dabbed a Ravindra Jadeja delivery towards the leg side for a single. Dhoni reacted in no time to run towards the ball and backhanded it to the stumps.

The throw was perfect as the ball hit the stumps but the bails didn’t move. It was no less than a blessing in disguise for Rahul who was much away from the crease. He saved himself in time and went on to slam a half-century.

Despite getting fifties, Rahul and Sarfraz failed to save the game for KXIP. Though they stitched a century partnership for the third wicket, they consumed a lot of balls and stymied the Kings XI chase as the CSK bowlers kept things tight.

Defending 160 for three, CSK restricted Punjab to 138 for 5 as the visitors scored at a low pace.
