Chennai made a poor start in the run chase by losing their top three batsmen Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina within the power play period, with just 33 on the board.
In T20s, sometimes a brilliant fielding effort or a good catch can change the complexion of a match. In the fifth over of Chennai innings, Raina had hit Behrendorff for two consecutive fours. It seemed that CSK would finally start to dominate the MI bowling attack from there but thanks to customary stunner from Kieron Pollard and excellent field placement from Rohit and Behrendorff, Raina’s fiery innings was short-lived.
Raina in an attempt to hit a biggie over the boundary rope, played a poorly timed shot and slashed it on the up; waiting for the perfect grab, Pollard kept his calm and stretched his right hand take a spectacular one-handed leaping catch just inside the boundary line to send back the free-stroking left-hander for 16 in 15 balls.
Apart from rains, Watson was too caught square off the wicket by big West Indian Kieron Pollard, the bowler to benefit being Lasith Malinga.
Struggling at 50 for three at one point, Mumbai raked in 45 runs in the last two overs to post 170 for five and then halted their rivals at 133 for eight to post their second win in four games.
