Batting first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Stars posted a mammoth 219/1 in their 20 overs on the back of Stonis'' whirlwind ton which came up in just 60 balls. Stoinis was in belligerent touch, smashing the Sydney bowlers to all corners of the park, hitting 13 fours and eight sixes as he went past D’Arcy Short’s record for the highest individual score in the T20 tournament’s history.
The 30-year-old Stoinis thrashed another record with the help of Hilton Cartwright as they both formed a 207-run partnership, highest-ever in the tournament.
Stoinis has been in scintillating form for the Melbourne Stars, leading the run scoring charts in this edition so far with 331 runs with a healthy average of 55.1
