Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne was stretchered off Manuka Oval after a scary moment took place on day two of the second Test between Australia and Sri Lanka. The unfortunate incident took place in the 31st over of Sri Lanka's first innings when Karunaratne couldn't get out of the way of a very well angled short ball from Cummins at 142 kmph.
After getting struck in the back of the neck, the left-hander immediately dropped to the ground and wasn’t moving. The 30-year-old was quickly attended to by both Sri Lanka and Australia medical staff.
After lengthy treatment on the field, Karunaratne was helped on to stretcher by the medical staff before being carted off to the applause of crowd.
According to a report in Cricket.com.au, the Sri Lanka opener was then transported to an ambulance standing by. It was soon confirmed that he would be taken to hospital for further assessment but had not lost consciousness. Skipper Dinesh Chandimal replaced him with the score at 0-82.
Karunaratne had scored 46 from 84 balls with five boundaries before he got injured.
