After being put to bat first, India openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave India a flying start to bring up their 100 runs partnership in 18 overs. It is the first 100-run opening stand for India against Pakistan in a World Cup.

Meanwhile, Pakistan missed a big breakthrough. A throw at the wrong end by Fakhar Zaman gave India a breather. KL Rahul wanted to steal a quick single but Rohit charged back for another run, Fakhar threw the ball to bowlers end and Rahul, who was close to the crease, returned back in time.
