‘Why did Brendon McCullum retire from international cricket?’
This question always ticks in the minds of all McCullum fans when they watch him making superhero efforts on the field. It has been more than three years that the former New Zealand skipper bade adieu to the gentlemen’s game but his excellence persists till date.
Currently, he is in Australia playing the Big Bash League season 8 for the Brisbane Heat. On Friday he stunned the world one more time with his fielding skills against the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba and proved that he is simply ageless.
Scorchers batter Cameron Bancroft hit a straight drive to Josh Lalor on the final ball of the fifth over and McCullum, who was fielding at the long on, chased down the ball with full speed. As soon he sensed that he may not stop the ball by just sprinting, he dived full length, pulled the ball away from the boundary rope and landed safely, rolling down towards the fence.
Here’s the video of that unimaginable act:
It was something which McCullum could only pull off and the entire act stunned the viewers.
Later in the game, Josh Lalor claimed a hat-trick without even noticing it. He finished with 3-23 from his three overs to inflict more pain on the struggling Scorchers. His bowling heroics restricted the Perth Scorchers to a disappointing 9-128. In reply, Brisbane Heat chased down the target with six wickets in hands and 15 balls to spare.
