Teams like Australia and England are known for their attacking field placements to intimidate the batsman. Usually, we see four to five slip fielders, when captains want to attack the batsmen early on, in their innings. Such a field placement is seen in Test matches, mostly.

Finland, in their recent European Cricket Championship match against England XI broke all the notions of traditional field placements in cricket. They placed eight slip fielders and one leg-slip fielder on the very first ball of the innings. It was a tremendous display of courage and confidence by the Finland captain, Jonathan Scamans.

The European Cricket Championship is a tournament that is played between 15 European countries. It is a 10-over, per side tournament. Thus, the field placement becomes even more amusing as the batsmen are looking to score big in the short format of the game.

Eventually, England XI defeated Finland by 14 runs.

The final of this tournament is going to be played on 8 October 2021. Indian fans can watch all the matches of the European Cricket Championship on the FanCode App.
