The glory days of 1992 in all probability will return to Pakistan and this time, it’s not limited to cricket only.

With 1992 World Cup winning captain Imran Khan all but confirmed to take over as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan, his former teammate and fast bowling legend Wasim Akram looks set to take charge as the next Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman.

“Yes, Wasim is the front-runner for becoming next PCB chairperson. He’s been associated with IK since both legends used to play cricket for Pakistan and now both ready to take the country on new heights,” a close family member told Sports Mirchi.

According to reports, PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf) – the single largest party as per the trends in the general Pakistan elections – is certain to remove the current PCB chief Najam Sethi. The party has decided to put to end the practice of political recruitments in sports bodies.

The current PML-N government had compromised merit to bring in Sethi in the PCB and the PTI wants to rectify the mistake.

As of now, Akram appears to be the front-runner to take over the reins from Sethi.

Akram went to meet Imran after it became almost certain that his former captain would become Pakistan’s 19th Prime Minister.

The Akram-Imran meeting bears special significance as the latter has vouched to make Pakistan better in the sports area, especially in cricket.
