Pakistan captain Babar Azam is often compared to the Indian batting great Virat Kohli. Both of them are among the finest batters in world cricket at the moment but while Kohli has been a proven performer for year after year and now found a way to get back among the runs after overcoming a few rough patches in his career, Babar will have to maintain that consistencey over a prolonged period of time to be able to be in the same league as the Indian batter.
In a recent interview with Times of India, former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq also shared his opinion on the comparisions between the two batters. While he said that comparisons between any two cricketers are unfair, he underlined one key area where the Indian was way ahead than his Pakistani counterpart.
"Virat is an outstanding and fantastic player. The best part is that he takes his team along. His intent is always positive. He utilises his skills very well. The main thing is that his fitness is world-class. Babar Azam's fitness is not like that of Virat Kohli's. Babar needs to work more on his fitness. Babar is Pakistan's number one player. Babar is in fact the world number 1 batter (ODIs). Be it in any format of the game, Test, ODI, or T20I, he has been consistently performing well. Every country has one player like them (Virat and Babar)," he said in this interview with TOI.
"Kohli is a world-class player, Babar is too but Kohli's fitness is way better than Babar's," he added.
Meanwhile, Razzaq hoped that Pakistani players get to play in the IPL someday and also said that Indian cricketers should also come to Pakistan to play in the PSL. He said that the two nations should look to bury the differences between them to promote the sport.
