Virat Kohli To Step Down As T20I Captain: A Glance At Kohli's Batting Performance As Skipper

Virat Kohli is one of the rare players whose batting was not affected much after becoming captain. Virat Kohli remains among the top five players in the rankings as a batsman.

New Delhi: Virat Kohli has announced to give up the captaincy of the T20 format after the ICC T20I World Cup. As T20 captain, Virat Kohli not only led India to victories in South Africa, New Zealand, England, and Australia but he also secured a spot for himself in the top five batsmen rankings.

Virat Kohli has so far scored 3,159 runs in 90 T20I matches at an average of about 52 and a strike rate of 139. After taking over the captaincy in 2016, there was a slight decline in Virat Kohli's batting performance.

Before becoming captain, Virat Kohli scored 1,657 runs in 45 matches at an average of 57, while after becoming captain, he scored 1,502 runs in 45 matches at an average of about 49. 

India played 67 matches after Dhoni stepped down from the T20 captaincy, out of which Virat Kohli participated in 45.

Under Virat Kohli's leadership, Team India managed to win the last five T20 series. Virat Kohli, who captained 45 matches, won 13 of the 23 matches he played in India, while the team managed to win 16 of the 22 matches abroad under his captaincy. 

Virat Kohli Has Not Won ICC Tournament 

Virat Kohli has not won an ICC tournament for India so far despite having a great record as captain. Kohli, however, will command Team India at the October-November T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli has a great chance to progress ahead from the T20 captaincy by winning the title.

Rohit Sharma is leading the race to become team India's new captain in T20. Rohit Sharma has so far commanded the team in 19 T20 matches, winning 15 of them.
