Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they are available for IND vs SL three-match ODI series next month, Indian Express reported. The BCCI senior selection committee is expected to meet via Zoom call on Thursday evening, as board secretary Jay Shah is in Sri Lanka for the International Cricket Council (ICC) annual conference.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is expected to ask Suryakumar Yadav to take charge of the national team for India vs Sri Lanka T20I series, while Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Indian team in IND vs SL ODIs.

Earlier, there were reports that Suryakumar was in line to captain the team in the T20 Internationals, as the selectors were unsure about appointing Hardik Pandya due to his past fitness record. It is also being reported that the star all-rounder might leave Sri Lanka tour midway through due to some personal reasons.

Hardik Pandya served as India's vice-captain in 2024 T20 World Cup. The selection committee has reportedly informed the BCCI that if Suryakumar Yadav's performance fails to meet expectations, they are prepared to appoint a new captain in his place in the future. Reportedly, BCCI intends for Suryakumar to lead the Indian team in 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.

India's white-ball series (T20Is and ODIs) against Sri Lanka, starting with a T20I series, will begin from July 27 onwards.
