New Delhi: India captain Virat Kohli reached a career-high fourth position in the ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen after producing a man of the match performance in the second Test against England
Kohli guided India to victory by 246 runs in the first Test match against England at Vishkhapatnam on Monday.
Virat showcased great determination as he scored outstanding 167 runs in the first innings and played a crucial knock of 81 runs in the second innings to set a target of 405 runs for the visitors.
The Indian Test skipper stands on top in the T20 ranking and has also held top spot in one day internationals but he never managed to move above top 10 in Test cricket. The Delhi born cricketer’s consistency and sublime form has helped him move career best 4th position in Test cricket.
Virat earned 97 points at Vishakhaptnam and become the only 11th India to reach 800 point mark in Test rankings. Virat now trails England’s Joe Root by 22 points and another strong performance in Mohali Test would take him to the top of the table.
The 28-year-old Delhi cricketer become first India captain to score two double tons in one calendar year. Virat scored his first double hundred against West Indies followed great batting effort against New Zealand on the home soil.
Middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has gained one place to reach ninth rank after scoring 119 and one, while the England pair of wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow and all-rounder Ben Stokes have also made significant gains.
Bairstow has moved up four places to reach 12th position after scoring 53 and 34 not out, while Stokes has moved up five slots to 28th position after scoring 70 and six.
