New Delhi: England began to a steady start to their Ashes tour as the visitors managed to reach 59/1 at the end of the first session on Day 1 at Gabba.
Having won the toss, visiting captain Joe Root decided to bat first but received a major setback when speedster Mitchell Starc got former England skipper Alastair Cook caught behind in the third over on a score of mere 2 runs.
However, the experienced pair of Mark Stoneman and James Vince fought really hard to ensure that the visitors head into the break with only one down. The duo stitched a formidable 57-run partnership for the second wicket.
Australian pacers, on the other hand, have not gotten much from the surface but Nathan Lyon has been the most threatening amongst the lot. The hosts will look to grab wickets when they take the field for the second session.
