Rathour Lauds Rohit's Understanding Of Game


Vikram Rathour praised Rohit Sharma's leadership and batting skills, highlighting his deep understanding of the game and clear strategy. Rathour emphasised that Rohit has consistently led by example since becoming captain, both in performance and decision-making.


“His first quality is that as a batsman, he is a phenomenal player. I think he is someone who understands his game really well. He always has a clear game plan. As a leader, you must lead from the front and set an example through your performance. Since taking on the captaincy, Rohit has consistently done just that, always leading by example," Vikram said.

Vikram Rathour commended Rohit Sharma's leadership during the World Cup 2024, particularly his aggressive batting that set the tone for India's campaign. He highlighted Rohit's 40 off 24 balls against South Africa as a key moment that disrupted the opposition and led to a significant victory. 


Rathour also praised Rohit's deep involvement in team meetings and strategies, noting that he is a 'player's captain' who spends considerable time with both batters and bowlers to understand their perspectives and contribute to the team's overall strategy.


“He is a player’s captain. He is invested with the players. I have never seen a captain, who is so invested in team meetings and strategies. I've never seen a captain so deeply involved in team meetings and strategies," said Rathour. 


“He spends a lot of time on the team’s strategy. He is part of the bowlers’ meeting, batters meeting. He wants to sit with the bowlers and batters to try and understand what they are thinking. He invests a lot of time with the players.”

Vikram Rathour praised Rohit Sharma's tactical acumen as a captain, citing a key decision during the 2024 T20 World Cup final where Rohit used Jasprit Bumrah's overs early, a move that initially raised eyebrows but ultimately left 16 runs needed in the last over, positioning India for victory. Rathour admitted that Rohit's decisions can be surprising even to the coaching staff, but they often reveal their brilliance in hindsight.


“He is tactically very good as a captain. In the T20 World Cup final, he finished Bumrah’s over early. A lot of people must have questioned that decision but that decision put us in the situation, where 16 was needed in the last over. His tactical decisions on the field are spot on. Sitting outside It surprises you as a coach as well. We from outside sometimes think what he is doing but then you realise what he has done after a while," Rahtour concluded on the matter.
