Two Australian cricketers were allegedly molested in Indore on Thursday. The players, who are in India to participate in the ICC Women's World Cup, were walking from their hotel to a cafe when the incident took place.
Soon after the incident, the women cricketers sent an SOS notification to alert authorities about the molestation. Security personnel rushed to the spot upon receiving the information and began an investigation.
The Australian team's security manager, Danny Simmons, later filed a complaint at the MIG police station. Acting on the complaint, an FIR was registered, and the accused, identified as Aqeel, was arrested. He is a resident of Azadnagar.
Additional DCP Crime Branch, Rajesh Dandotiya said: "The Security officers of the women's Australian Cricket Team filed a complaint that two members of the team faced inappropriate behaviour. An FIR was registered, and the accused was identified and arrested following an Intensive Strategic Operation."
Aqeel has been charged under sections 74 and 78 of the BNS. "The incident occurred around 11 AM on October 23, when members of the women's Australian Cricket Team were walking towards a cafe from their hotel. We are examining if there were any shortfalls in the security protocols," Additional DCP Crime Branch added.
