Deepak Chahar’s transformation from just another bowler to India’s one of the promising pacer has earned him several accolades. After performing phenomenally in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), he found himslef in India A against England.

However, the brewing young speedster doesn’t hesitate to give credits to his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni.

In an interview with CSK, Chahar spoke about the ‘faith’ Dhoni had in him even before the start of the eleventh season.

He said, “My captain had faith in me. Before the auctions he had indicated that he would pick me for this IPL,” said Chahar.

“He had full confidence in me. I’ve also been working on my game for the last few years and I needed a platform to prove my talent. He [Dhoni] gave me the platform and used me perfectly,” added the 25-year-old.

Chahar further spoke about the way Dhoni nurtures the youngsters playing under him.

He said, “He grooms the player. He used me more with the new ball. On asking why he didn’t use me in death overs, he said one should improve slowly.”

“He has a huge knowledge of how to use a particular player. That’s the reason he is such a great captain. He knows how to get best out of a player, and that helped me. I doubt whether it would have been this easy had there been some other captain,” he added.

Chahar impressed with his bowling skills in the initial overs during IPL 2018. He featured in 12 games for CSK taking 11 wickets at an economy of 7.83. This was the third season on the trot that Chahar got a chance to play alongside MS Dhoni, under the guidance of coach Stephen Fleming.

Before getting inducted into the CSK franchise, Chahar represented Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017 seasons.
