There have been several cricketers who contributed to the game beyond the early 40s. But making an international comeback at the age of 52 is extremely rare.
Netherland’s woman cricketer Caroline de Fouw made her comeback to International circuit after turning 52. She was inducted into the Netherlands women’s team which has currently participated in the Women’s Qualifiers for the 2018 World T20.
Under ICC’s regulations, the tournament has been accredited with International status with effective from July 1, 2018. Thus, de Fouw got a chance to play for her nation. Her last appearance at this level was in July 2008 in an ODI against Windies.
After the comeback, she played against UAE on Saturday. Though Netherlands lost the game by 6 wickets, the veteran woman cricketer made a superb return. In her spell of 3.4, she picked up 3 wickets off just runs.
With this feat, she has now become the oldest woman cricketer to play an international match. At the same time, she is also the 2nd oldest cricketer to take the field.
