After taking part in the inaugural season of WPL, Indian women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is set to play in The Hundred cricket tournament. She will represent Trent Rockets while another star India batter Smriti Mandhana will play for Southern Brave. Harmanpreet was acquired by Trent Rockets at The Hundred draft that took place on Thursday, Mandhana on the other hand was retained by Southern Brave.
Talking about the male players, Pakistan cricketers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf were also bagged by Welsh Fire while Babar Azam did not find a buyer. Former West Indies stalwart Kieron Pollard and New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult also went unsold. The 2023 season of The Hundred will take place from August 1 where the first match will be played between Southern Brave in the men’s and women’s competition respectively.
Earlier, in the WPL 2023, Harmanpreet Kaur led Mumbai Indians outplayed RCB by four wickets. She also won her first toss in the Women's Premier League on Tuesday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
"We are bowling first. I am very happy that we have won the toss today. These things can happen in cricket, sometimes you are doing well, and sometimes don't go well according to you. We have to be strong. Definitely, it is very important, we want to finish at the top and play at the finals," speaking at the time of the toss Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet said.
"I think we've been talking about this in the Indian dressing room about her toss-winning abilities. I didn't do anything. We're used to it now in the Indian team but seven in a row might be a record. We were also looking to field first, because we have chased well in the last two games. It looks dry and our spinners might get good assistance in the second half. For the first time, we are going in with the same team," Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Smriti Mandhana said.
