Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stars Devon Conway, Mitchell Santner, Ambati Rayudu along with Gujarat Titans' (GT) David Miller will all be part of the Texas Super Kings' squad for the forthcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023. Notably, this is set to be the inaugural season of the competition in USA. The side will also be coached by former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming who has coached the Men in Yellow all these years in the IPL. In addition, Flemig also coaches the Super Kings franchise that takes part in SA20.
The development means that it will be a mini-CSK reunion of sorts at Texas with Conway, Santner, Rayudu and Fleming all of whom were part of the Chennai squad that lifted the IPL trophy in Ahmedabad last month to be part of the Super Kings franchise in MLC. While Rayudu had announced that the IPL will be his last game of the league, he is now free to participate in leagues around the world and this will be his first assignment. Conway was adjudged the Player of the Match in the rain-curtailed IPL final where he scored a 25-ball 27 and laid the foundation of a successful chase. Interestingly though, Dwayne Bravo, who was CSK's bowling coach in IPL 2023, will be back as a player for MLC.
Other than the aforementioned names, Australia's pace-bowling all-rounder Daniel Sams, who had opted against taking a state contract with New South Wales to focus on T20 leagues around the globe, will also be part of the Texas Super Kings side. Furthermore, Gerald Coetzee who made himself noticed by ending up as the third-highest wicket-taker in the first-ever SA20 with 17 wickets will also be part of the Texas Super Kings setup.
Ex-international players Sami Aslam and Rusty Theron were roped in by the Super Kings during the MLC drafts in March. USA's Saiteja Mukkamalla was also picked. As far as the coaching staff is concerned, other than Fleming who will be the head coach, Eric Simmons and Albie Morkel will assist him in his duties.
