In a major boost to the England team ahead of the third and final Test against the West Indies at Old Trafford, seamer Jofra Archer has rejoined the rest of the squad at Old Trafford after he tested negative in a second test which he undertook, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Tuesday.
Archer had to miss out on playing in the team's emphatic win over the Windies in the second Test at Manchester on Monday after the ECB revealed ahead of the game that he had breached bio-secure regulations laid down by the ECB in conjunction with ICC's safety norms to protect cricketers from contraction the coronavirus infection.
The tearaway speedster was left out of the Old Trafford Test as he had made an unauthorised trip home after the West Indies' four-wicket win in the first Test in Southampton. It came out that during his trip he had come into contact with an unnamed individual.
Archer had to undergo self-isolation for a period of five days in his room at the England squad's on-site hotel at Old Trafford.
But following a disciplinary hearing last week, the ECB said Archer would be available for selection for the third Test provided both his virus checks produced negative results.
The Barbados-born quick could come back into the England side when the series finale starts at Old Trafford on Friday.
With Archer back in the mix, England will have the luxury of choosing from a plethora of seamers , with Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran having all played their part in the second Test win at Lancashire's headquarters.
