T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies batsman Sherfane Rutherford has etched his name in the history books by registering one of the finest match-winning and match-defining knocks in the history of the T20 World Cup. The Caribbean is one of the most underrated players, as the likes of big names such as Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Brandon King, Shai Hope always hog the limelight and the talent and skillset of Sherfane Rutherford often goes unnoticed.

The left-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 68 off 39 balls to drag the Windies to 149, which was an above par score on a difficult surface of the Brian Lara Cricket Acacdemy Stadium. West Indies did extremely well with the ball, as they registered a 13-run victory and with the win, they have now secured a berth in the 'Super 8'. Nicholas Pooran too, had a memorable night, as he overtook 'The Universe Boss' Chris Gayle as the highest run-getter for West Indies in the T20I's.

Sherfane Rutherford is arguably the most technically-blessed batsman in the Caribbean region right now, and does not require the slogging strength to dispatch the ball, which is the case with the likes of Johnson Charles, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell etc., who have raw strength on their side but have lots of technical flaws in their batting attributes.

Here's What 'Man Of The Match' Sherfane Rutherford Said On His Performance

“It’s a good feeling to help my team. Playing a World Cup match is all of ours dream, and this is what we live for and work hard for, so I’m just happy to contribute for my team. I was just telling myself to take it deep, me and Sammy we had a talk and he said, ‘Try and take it deep. Keep rotating it. I started feeling a momentum, and I thought we could always make up in the end. The two bowlers they had to make up with, I knew I could score maximum runs, and I think I did that well," said Sherfane Rutherford in the post-match presentation ceremony, where he was awarded the Man of the Match award.
